WHY: Four years ago, All in for Ohio Kids pushed state lawmakers to finally fix more than 20 years of an unconstitutional and unfair public school funding system by including the Fair School Funding Plan in the 2022-23 State Budget. The plan was set to be phased in over six years, with the final two in FY 2026-27. Although he said he is implementing the final phases, Gov. DeWine’s 2026-27 Budget proposal fails to use updated cost information. As a result, it would cut $103 million from K-12 public education, including $95 million for students with special needs.
The coalition will unveil a tool that demonstrates what could be possible if lawmakers decide to fulfill their promise to Ohio’s children and pass the Fair School Funding Plan as it was intended – with an up-to-date formula that accounts for the true cost of educating children of all backgrounds, in all communities and of all abilities.
