Saying why protecting access to Medicaid and affordable health care is personally important to you is a powerful message!
Talking Points
Choose what messages matter most to you:
- State that you are a concerned constituent calling to urge the Senator to vote against any budget package that cuts or decreases access to health care for people in Ohio.
- Describe why having access to Medicaid and/or health care through an Affordable Care Act plan matters to you — or to anyone you care about.
- 2.9 million Ohioans directly depend on Medicaid for their health care coverage. This includes adults, children, elderly people, people managing chronic diseases and disabilities, and students with special needs. The well-being of every one of these people is under direct threat by budget provisions that limit or cut access to health care we depend on.
- As Ohio’s largest insurer, many more of the Senator’s constituents rely on Medicaid-funded health care providers, programs, and jobs that are also threatened by cuts.
Budget provisions like the following all cut health care access for Ohioans:
- Medicaid work requirements
- More eligibility paperwork
- Shifting higher Medicaid costs to Ohio taxpayers
- Limiting what funds Ohio can use to pay our share of Medicaid costs
- Not extending premium tax credits that have made health coverage under Affordable Care Act plans more affordable
