$1.1T: Cuts to federal funding for health care in the next decade, made by Congress in H.R. 1 — which even the president has stopped calling “beautiful.” That includes the largest Medicaid funding cut in history.

$187B: Cuts to SNAP funding in the next decade, also made in the federal budget, also the program’s largest funding cut in history.

$3.4T: Amount added to the national deficit by that very same bill. You may be wondering how Congress managed to add that much to the deficit even as they made historic funding cuts to programs Americans depend on. Well…

$4.2T: Amount of revenue lost in the next decade because Congressional leaders used funding cuts to (partially) pay for tax cuts that overwhelmingly benefit the richest Americans.

These numbers are just the tip of the infuriating iceberg. Get all the details in our latest report, and track the timeline of key provisions.

29: Number of states that have a property-tax circuit breaker of some kind. Circuit breakers are common because they work, targeting relief to those who need it most and protecting schools and other public services that rely on property taxes. But don’t tell that to the Ohio Senate, which this week passed not one but four poorly targeted property tax bills that will do more harm than good. Check out our homepage for more on how the legislature is scrambling to do something about property taxes while ignoring the best solution.

2: Number of opportunities remaining for Clevelanders to deliver public comment to City Council in support of Tanisha’s Law. Named for Tanisha Anderson, who was killed by police while she was experiencing a mental health crisis, Tanisha’s Law would create a Dept. of Community Crisis Response in Cleveland. Advocates are calling on everyone to pack the council chambers on November 24th and December 1st. Get all the details here.

20-25%: Amount of electricity Ohio imports from other states, which is one of the main reasons utility rates jumped anywhere from 10% to 36% this June. H.B. 303, which recently passed the Ohio House by an overwhelming 77-8 margin, would increase in-state electricity generation by 1,500 MW. That’s just a fraction of the benefits Ohioans would see from a broader energy plan based on the community energy pilot program created by the bill. H.B. 303 now goes to the state Senate; let your Senator know they should pass it ASAP. (Use this tool to find your state Senator and their contact info.)

6,666: Factor by which Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol’s salary exceeded his median employee’s last year. That may be part of the reason Starbucks Workers United members are striking at locations nationwide  — including in Cleveland, Toledo, Westlake, and Bowling Green. You can support striking workers by signing their pledge not to cross the picket line and by donating to Cleveland Starbucks Organizers Support Fund.
