In 2015 more than 33,500 Ohioans were homeless and 400,000 spent more than half their income on rent. Governor Kasich’s 2018-2019 budget doesn’t do enough to meet Ohio’s housing needs. In a new Budget Bite released today, Policy Matters Ohio calls on state legislators to invest General Revenue Funds in the Ohio Housing Trust Fund to restore its purchasing power.

“Ohio has a problem with affordable housing and homelessness and for the past 25 years, the Housing Trust Fund helped solve it for 1.8 million people,” said Budget Bite author Wendy Patton. “But revenues for the fund have declined by about $30 million a year since 2004.”

Policy Matters belongs to Advocates for Ohio’s Future, a coalition of almost 500 endorsing organizations asking for additional investment in the fund.
